At the General Election in Newark on 6th May 2010, 51228 votes were cast (approximately 71% of the total number of eligible voters) with the following result:

Patrick Mercer (Conservative): 27590 votes (+3.4%).

Ian Campbell (Labour): 11438 votes (-6%).

Pauline Jenkins (Liberal Democrats): 10246 votes (+1.6%).

Rev Tom Irvine (UK Independence Party): 1954 votes (+1%).
