Dear Sir/Madam,
In your edition dated 15 September you reported Rutland County Council (RCC) agreed to implement a green waste charge of £35p.a. RCC's view is that people don't have to pay this charge; they have a choice. According to RCC if people don't want to pay £35 they can take their garden waste to a civic amenities site. But what about the disabled and the frail elderly who cannot lift their garden waste into their car or lift it out at the other end? What about those whose sight is so poor they cannot drive a car? How do they have a choice? Many disabled people already have to pay someone to tend their gardens. Now they are being forced to pay for the garden waste removal as well when the rest of us have a real choice. Surely this is discriminatory?
Yours faithfully
