Outsourcing - a Failure

Gates Close on CarillionPrivatising the Profits
Nationalising the Losses

The demise of Carillion, builder and supplier of countless outsourced services to the Government, is the largest in a long line of failed outsourcing contracts.
Government deals with the likes of G4S, Serco, National Express and Virgin East Coast have run into trouble with poorly run prisons, the debacle over security for the Olympic Games and the bailing out of the East Coast Main Line railway franchise, only a few of the problems.
All over the country, local councils are slowly realising that outsourcing simply costs more and provides a poorer service than in-house services.
Notts County Council is locked into a poor recycling contract with Veolia. As a result, Newark and Sherwood has one of the worse recycling rates in the whole country. Lib Dems want the contract to be re-negotiated.
Lib Dem MPs and Councillors fully support properly funded Public Services. Whilst not fundamentally against outsourcing, they have tried to scrutinise outsourcing contracts to no avail.
Even Conservative run Councils are taking these failed and costly contracts back into their control, directly employing local people to sort out the mess.
