Flood defence work to help protect Southwell's homes and businesses has been approved by the Government. Almost five years ago, flash floods caused nearly £10 million of damage to more than 250 properties throughout the town. Costing £5 million, the main engineering work could be completed by the end of the year.

Southwell Leisure Centre is one of a very few Centres that is owned by the residents of the town, and run by a Trust. It is very well used. At the moment it makes a modest surplus and the Trustees are planning to invest the money in further improvements.
Most Families in Southwell will face a £100 or more County Council Tax hike in April*. Last year with Labour in control the County Council raised the tax by 5%. This year under the Conservatives it is also 5% including a 2% Social Care precept.
